Now we face a world in which male "honor" is legislated and women are actively educated in dishonorable behavior to gain advantage via whatever means they can exploit, the most perverse being their "victim" status. On my better days, I have faith that the world will recognize this reversal of oppression and redress the balance. Today is not one of my better days.John Doehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05326982429461344063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15311875.post-1144845239469094652006-04-12T08:33:00.000-04:002006-04-12T08:33:00.000-04:00I understand exactly where you are coming from, an...I understand exactly where you are coming from, and that it seems unfair, and even not right, for a man to engineer a situation where you cannot be sued and held in virtual slavery for much or even the rest of one's life. It seems unfair, I think, because men are supposed to be the hero, and do the right thing. The problem is that your spouse IS going to be tempted to do you in. And the law will support her in ruining the rest of your life. Faced with a prospect of slavery, and no real defense, and only your soon-to-be-ex's vague sense of morality between you and your indefinite servitude, I think a reasonable, fair, and sensivle man would take every step necessary to protect himself. My ex (like many other exes that I know) swore that she was not after my money. That was then. Today I (and many other men I know) am without assets, and I live at the poverty level. This is what is at stake. The ex-wives say: "I am only taking what the law allows." And the law allows slavery. Thanks for your post!MisAnDropehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04002635532122273531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15311875.post-1144805266699681122006-04-11T21:27:00.000-04:002006-04-11T21:27:00.000-04:00Hey Misandrope,This is pretty hard core and readin...Hey Misandrope,

This is pretty hard core and reading it a depressing experience. But you're more than likely right depending on the jurisdiction and given a future ex with absolutely no scruples. On the other hand, anyone doing this is falling to the same level of the wife who sets up her husband (albeit with the enthusiastic collaboration of your typical blood-sucking scum, sorry, divorce lawyer). How common is this? I don't know. The game is rigged, we know that, but if all divorcing couples had experiences like ours, then I wouldn't give the courts much future. If the 50% of marriages that end in divorce suffered this degree of vindictiveness the peasants would be at the gates baying for blood in no time. (Of course, it is entirely possible that they're on their way already.)

Personally, I don't believe that all divorces are terminally destructive to either side, and I couldn't in good conscience give the advice you have. Many ex's do have scruples, and manage to maintain some humane respect. Some of your advice, however, is good for self-protection for a man who suspects (or even many who don't) his wife may be sharpening her knives.John Doehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05326982429461344063noreply@blogger.com
